Covered in mange and emaciated to the bones, the neglected stray dog was rescued by an animal shelter in Ukraine last month.

He looked to have been wandering the streets for a long time. But the shelter gave the blue-eyed dog lots of food and medicine and started to look for his fur-ever home.

The shelter shared a photo of him on their Facebook page, but they doubt anyone would be interested to adopt him because of his current state. However, the dog actually captured the hearts of many as his photo was shared hundreds of times.

After two days since they posted the dog’s photo, a woman called the shelter and told them the big dog looked like her missing dog.

She said her dog, whom she calls Lord, had been stolen from her yard two years ago and she misses him terribly.

“She’d been looking for her dog for two years,” Galina Lekunova, a worker at the shelter, told The Dodo in an interview.

The woman immediately came to the shelter the next day to meet the dog. As they approached each other, though they were both hesitant, the dog’s tail started wagging. The woman was crying when the dog jumped up to her and hugged her.
